Today Effie Valardo talks with Denise Bach and Rebecca Sahm about her two books, “How To Be Hot AT 60″ and “Beyond The Invisible Wall”.
 

 ”How To Be Hot At 60″, written in 2000, is about a woman who might be divorced or widowed at an advanced age and left to care for herself for the first time in her life.
This happened to Effie when she was 60. She had no resume, no experience, no way of supporting herself except through waitressing. She was over weight and totally depressed. Effie remade herself, got a job, started a social life and her 60th year became the happiest year of her life. “How To Be Hot At 60″, shows women how they can do this at any age and in any condition.
Effie’s recently released second book, “Beyond the Invisible Wall”, is all about the way women were treated in the 50′s, actually going back to the way her mother was treated in the 30′s, and works it’s way up to the 60′s. These were times of innocence but also very frustrating for women who did not have the same opportunities as men. Women were expected to stay home, raise children and be subservient to their husbands. Women could not even buy a car alone without a man’s signature. No other information was necessary about that man, as long as it was a man’s signature! “Beyond The Invisible Wall” is all about that time and how a few women managed to crawl out from underneath that wall as their children grew.
Effie has written this book to give the children and grandchildren of that generation of women a better understanding of their mothers and their struggles of that time period.

 Lynn’s guest today is Jerry Cameron, former police chief and law enforcement officer.

Astounding proof we are losing the war on drugs and what we can do about it! Albert Einstein said: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.”

This quote introduces us to Jerry Cameron. Jerry spent much of his 17 year law enforcement career in the “war on drugs”.  (His credentials and career are impressive and you can read more about him here.)

Did you know? 
President Nixon signed legislation for the War on Drugs about 37 years ago. Since that time, the US has spent over $1 TRILLION dollars in this fight.  And the results…?

Jerry is now a spokesperson for LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition), which includes this information:

Toward the end of his career Cameron began to question the efficacy as well as the morality of the “war on drugs.” When he began doing serious research on this subject, he concluded that the “war on drugs” was a not only a total failure but that it had caused tremendous damage to society. The simple truth was that not one benefit could be identified and a myriad of unintended destructive consequences were evident. In fact, the war proved counterproductive to every one of its stated goals.

Cameron has seen first hand the devastation of neighborhoods, perversion of the law enforcement mission, and the squandering of resources that are the result of prohibition. Today he speaks out against decades of failed policy and encourages the “re-legalization” of drugs. He believes that this is the only way to decrease the amount of drugs falling into the hands of our children, to make room for violent offenders to serve their full terms in our prisons, and to return law enforcement to its legitimate function of protecting our citizens.

Jerry has presented to audiences, law enforcement agencies and governmental agencies across the United States, and in England, Scotland, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Canada.
